Accessing Microsoft Word Files
Some computers automatically launch a file-viewing application (e.g. Quick View) when you try to open Microsoft Word files from a website. These applications may not correctly display nor allow you to modify information in the file.
If your default viewing application is something other than Microsoft Word, you will have to download the document to your computer in order to correctly view and modify the text, by executing the following steps:
- Right click on the document hyperlink.
- In the dropdown menu, select "Save Target As" (for Internet Explorer users), or "Save Link As" (for Netscape or Mozilla Firefox users).
- In the "Save As" dialog box, choose a location for the Microsoft Word file and click "Save."
- Open the file from its stored location by double-clicking it. The document will automatically open in Microsoft Word.
Acrobat Reader and PDF Files
Some of the documents on this site are available in portable document format (PDF). To view a PDF document, you must have a PDF reader installed. If you do not already have such a reader, there are numerous PDF readers available for free download or for purchase on the Internet:
To view a PDF document on-line, click on the underlined link to the document. To return to this site once you have finished viewing the document, click the <Back> button on your browser.
To download a PDF document to your workstation, follow these steps:
- Right-click on the underlined link to the document, and select the Save Link As option (for Netscape or Mozilla Firefox users) or the Save Target As option (for Internet Explorer users) from the drop-down menu.
- In the Save As dialog, select a location for the PDF file and click Save.
- The file will be saved to the location you have chosen.
Once you have downloaded the PDF file, you can then use Adobe Acrobat Reader to view it.
Downloading Graphics Files
The graphics files available for download on this site are in a variety of industry-standard formats. Unless you have the appropriate software for viewing and manipulating these files, you will not be able to view them on-screen, but you will still be able to download them to your workstation.
To download graphics files to your workstation, follow these steps:
- Right-click on the underlined link to the graphics file, and select the Save Link As option (for Netscape users) or the Save Target As option (for Internet Explorer users) from the drop-down menu.
- In the Save As dialog, select a location for the graphics file and click Save.
- The file will be saved to the location you have chosen.
