Context
Industry Canada's corporate identity exists within the framework of FIP. Therefore, the official symbols of the Government of Canada — the "Canada" wordmark, the flag symbol and the Coat of Arms — form the basis of the Department's corporate identity. The flag symbol and Coat of Arms are always used as FIP signatures (a combination of either the flag symbol or the Coat of Arms and an organization's name in both official languages). For more information on the federal government's official symbols, see the FIP website.
Each of the Department's special operating agencies — Canadian Intellectual Property Office, Communications Research Centre Canada, Measurement Canada, Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy Canada and Technology Partnerships Canada — maintains a distinct corporate identity within the FIP framework, as does the Competition Bureau, in recognition of its unique status.
In addition, the Department may use unique identifiers in exceptional circumstances; the creation of such symbols requires the approval of Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat and is subject to Industry Canada's procedures for Minister's Office Approvals for Publishing. At present, unique identifiers have been authorized for the Canada-Ontario Business Service Centre, FedNor and Strategis.
