How do we become program administrators?

Eligible initial recipients will be Canadian organizations, universities and colleges that are incorporated as non-profit corporations in Canada and which can demonstrate that they:

  • have a governance structure which assures accountability to the small business sector interest;
  • have the structure, governance and funding arrangements which do not expose them to commercial influence on their research and policy positions;
  • are capable of reaching small and medium-sized businesses;
  • are competent, credible, and accountable in carrying out the projects;
  • are guided by objectives which are consistent with the program objective.

What are the objectives of the Small Business Internship Program?

The objectives of the Small Business Internship Program are to:

  • support SMEs in their efforts to adopt e-commerce practices in their business process, become more productive and competitive and create a positive environment for the growth of small business, thereby making a positive impact on the global economy;
  • develop opportunities for youth in internships with small and medium-sized enterprises that foster their long term employability and career development;
  • help youth fund their post-secondary education.

Small and medium-sized enterprises will be the beneficiary of student interns who will work with the businesses to improve the efficiency and productivity of the businesses especially through their use of e-business.

What costs are eligible?

Non-profit organizations are eligible for the following:

  • the reasonable and proper administration costs incurred by the non-profit organization in administering the distribution of the contribution and monitoring and coordinating the implementation of eligible activities being carried out by the employers/SMEs;
  • the costs associated with the central administrative function of the non-profit organization that are drawn upon to support activities of the program.
