Petition to the Governor in Council

Notice is hereby given that a petition has been received by the Governor in Council under section 12 of the Telecommunications Act in regard to a decision issued on March 31, 1995, by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission; Telecom Decision CRTC 95-4, Final 1994 and Interim 1995 Contribution Charges.

On June 29, 1995, the Canadian Business Telecommunications Alliance (CBTA) filed a petition requesting that the Governor in Council vary Telecom Decision CRTC 95-4 so as to provide that, effective August 1, 1995, competitive suppliers of long distance service would not be required to pay contribution charges until such time as the CRTC determines that they have attained, in aggregate, 30% of the interexchange market. The CBTA also requested that any revenue losses to the telephone companies from this action would not be permitted to be recovered by way of offsetting increases to local telephone rates.

This petition and any petition or submission made in response to it may be inspected by the public during normal business hours at the Industry Canada library, 365 Laurier Avenue West, Ottawa, and the regional offices of Industry Canada in Halifax, Montréal, Toronto, Edmonton and Vancouver.
