Notice No. SMSE-005-98

Notice is hereby given that Industry Canada is releasing Amendment No. 1 to Issue 8 of the Certification Specification 03 (CS-03) dated April 4, 1998. This amendment includes a new requirement on receive volume control in Part V and editorial changes to Parts, I, II, IV, VI and VII.

The receive volume control requirement added in section 6.1 of Part V will be effective on January 1st, 2000. From that day on, all telephones, as described therein, manufactured for the Canadian market (including proprietary telephones which have been certified as components or as part of a package) shall comply with these requirements. The exemptions of wireless and secure telephones continues to be applied to the entire Part V requirements. The distant effective date will provide sufficient time for manufacturers and suppliers to redesign their equipment and phase in equipment meeting this new requirement.

All representations must cite the Canada Gazette Part I, publication date, and the Notice reference number.

All written comments received in response to this Notice will be available for public viewing during normal business hours at the Industry Canada Library, 3rd Floor, West Tower, 235 Queen St, Ottawa, and at the regional offices of Industry Canada in Moncton, Montreal, Toronto, Winnipeg and Vancouver for a period of one year from the date of receipt of those comments.
