Archived—Selection of Two Companies to Provide Multipoint Communications Systems Services

OTTAWA, March 22, 2000 – John Manley, Minister of Industry, today announced that two Canadian companies have been selected to provide Multipoint Communications Systems (MCS) services in the 2500 MHz band for areas across Canada.

Inukshuk Internet Inc. and Partners, a new company created in partnership with local Canadian companies across the country, has been awarded 12 of the 13 available service areas. SaskTel, Saskatchewan's local, long distance and mobile telephone company, has been awarded the licence for that province.

A total of eight companies applied to obtain MCS licences across the country for a total of 52 different applications.

Minister Manley will be in Montreal on Friday, March 24, 2000, to take part in an event with Inukshuk and Sasktel representatives. Further details on MCS will be made available at the event.
