Notice No. SMSE-011-12 – Part II, Amendment 1; Part VI, Amendment 1; and Part VII, Amendment 4 of CS-03, Issue 9

Notice is hereby given that Industry Canada is releasing the following documents related to the Compliance Specification for Terminal Equipment, Terminal Systems, Network Protection Devices, Connection Arrangements and Hearing Aids Compatibility, CS-03, Issue 9:

  1. Part II, Amendment 1, Requirements for Terminal Equipment Intended for Connection to 1.544 Mbps (DS-1) Digital Interfaces;
  2. Part VI, Amendment 1, Requirements for Integrated Services Digital Network Terminal Equipment; and
  3. Part VII, Amendment 4, Requirements for Limited-Distance Modem and Digital Subrate Terminal Equipment.

The above parts of CS-03 have been amended to update some methods of measurements and figures. The following changes have been introduced:

  1. Part II:
    1. Reworded the following methods of measurement for accuracy: sections 3.2.2; 3.3.2; 3.4.2.1; 3.6.2.2; and 3.6.4.2;
    2. Updated the following figures for accuracy and clarity: figures 3.2; 3.3(b); 3.4; 3.5(a); 3.6(a); 3.6(b); 3.6(c); 3.6(d) and 3.6(f); and
    3. Other changes:
      • Corrected the formula to calculate the power in dBm illustrated in the Alternative Method of Measurement in Section 3.4.2.2;
      • Corrected Section 3.6.3.1, Encoded Analog Content Requirements, paragraph (2), to meet requirements of 3.6.5.1; and
      • Moved Table 3.6 to Section 3.6.5.2.
  2. Part VI:
    1. Reworded the following methods of measurement for accuracy: sections 3.3.1.3; 3.4.2; 3.5.2.2; and 3.5.4.2;
    2. Updated the following figures for accuracy and clarity: figures 3.3(a), 3.3 (b) and 3.3(e); 3.4(b); 3.5(a) and 3.5(b); and
    3. Other changes:
      • Corrected the formula for calculating the total power at 772 kHz (Section 3.3.1.3);
      • Added the calibration resistor value (RL) for primary rate access and basic rate access devices;
      • Deleted obsolete figures 3.5(c) and 3.5(d) related to filter transfer characteristics; and
      • Connection to ground (G) condition paragraph was deleted from figures 3.3(a), 3.3(b), 3.3(c), 3.3(e), 3.4(b) and 3.5(a); and inserted as a new section (see Section 1.6).
  3. Part VII:
    1. For metallic voltages at frequencies above 270 kHz, the frequency range was changed from 270 kHz - 6 MHz to 270 kHz - 30 MHz. This change was reflected in:
      • Requirements: sections 3.1.1.1(2)(c) and 3.1.1.1(2)(d);
      • Method of Measurement: sections 3.1.3.4(2) and 3.1.3.5(2); and
      • Figures 3.1.3(e) and 3.1.3(f).
    2. Reworded Method of Measurement in Section 3.2.9.2 for accuracy;
    3. Updated the following figures for accuracy and clarity: figures 3.1.3(a) to 3.1.3(d); 3.1.4(a) and (b); 3.2.4; 3.2.7; and 3.2.8; and
    4. Other changes:
      • In Figure 3.2.9(b), the wide band transformer T1 was changed from 100:100 ohms to 135:135 ohms; and
      • Minor edits were made in sections 3.2.9.1 and 3.2.2.9 to be consistent with the symbols used in Figure 3.2.9(b).

Part II, Amendment 1; Part VI, Amendment 1; and Part VII, Amendment 4 of CS-03, Issue 9, will come into effect upon publication of this notice.

Interested parties should submit their comments within 75 days of the date of publication of this notice. Soon after the close of the comment period, all comments received will be posted on Industry Canada's Spectrum Management and Telecommunications Web site at http://www.ic.gc.ca/spectrum.
