Notices Concerning the TAFL Files

This page lists all previous and current notices issued on modifications made to the TAFL files and any other changes which may impact on users.


Subject: Amateur Callsign Database Link

Issue Date: 03 January 2012

Effective January 03, 2012, the link to the Amateur Callsign Database has been changed from http://callsign.ca to http://ic.gc.ca/callsign. The new link provides services including amateur/club callsign search, available callsign search, special event call sign search and application form for new special event call signs.


Subject: Pending frequencies are not authorized assignments and are subject to being changed

Issue Date: 03 October 2011

Effective October 03, 2011, a disclaimer is added to advise users that Pending frequencies are not authorized assignments and are subject to being changed prior to final authorization.


Subject: Technical and Administrative Frequency Lists Site Redesign

Issue Date: 28 November 2008

In compliance with the Treasury Board policy "Common Look and Feel for the Internet” (CLF 2.0), the Technical and Administrative Frequency Lists (TAFL) went through a site redesign. From now on, the main entry page of TAFL will now be http://www.ic.gc.ca/epic/site/tafl-ltaf.nsf/en/home.


Subject: Amateur Callsign Database Link

Issue Date: 04 June 2008

Effective June 02, 2008, the link to the Amateur Callsign Database has been changed from http://www.rac.ca to http://callsign.ca. The old link is still valid, but the new link is officially sanctioned. It also provides a better search tools. With the new link, the user can search by call sign, name, province, city and postal code. With the old link, the user can only search by call sign and name.


Subject: Migration to NAD-83 Coordinates Standard

On January 19, 2008, Industry Canada migrated all radio station licences and broadcast certificates to the NAD-83 standard.

Issue Date: 21 December 2007

Effective January 19, 2008, Industry Canada will migrate all radio station licences and broadcast certiicates to the NAD-83 standard. All reports and files produced by the Department after that date will follow this standard.


Subject: Removal of TAFL Data File "Winnipeg (Regional Office) (do31.zip)"

Issue Date: 05 September 2001

Effective September 5, 2001, the TAFL data file "Winnipeg (Regional Office) (do31.zip)" has been removed since all frequencies previously listed in this file have been tranferred to other District Offices in the Central Region.


Subject: Removal of the Field "Standard Industrial Classification (SIC)" Code from the Frequency Data Files

Issue Date: 01 March 2001

Effective March 1st 2001, the Department will remove the Standard Industrial Codes (SIC) from its radio licensing database. Consequently, the space previously occupied by this field in the TAFL data files has been filled with BLANK characters in order not to shift the position of other fields within the files. The files affected are:

  1. REGIONAL TAFL (all data files) - the 5 character SIC code has been replaced by 5 blank characters.
  2. NATIONAL TAFL (all data files) - the 5 character SIC code has been replaced by 5 blank characters.

Users who load the TAFL data automatically in their databases should not have to modify their data loading programs nor the structure of their databases. However, certain user application programs using this field may require modifications.

The corresponding "File Layout" and "Field Description" for the data files affected by this change have been revised accordingly.


Subject: Frequency of Updates of the TAFL Data Files

Issue Date: 01 February 2001

Effective February 1st 2001, the frequency data files will be updated once a month, instead of every 3 months. The updated files will normally be posted during the first week of each month.
