    A comprehensive first-stop network of information centers, services and products from the federal and provincial levels of government, providing clients with business information.
  • Canadian Wind Energy Atlas — Environment Canada
    Environment Canada's Wind Energy Atlas website is aimed at developing new meteorological tools to be used by Canada's wind energy industry. It offers the possibility to browse through the results of the numerical simulations that were run on all of Canada in order to determine its wind energy potential.



Financing

  • Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC)
    Provides support for small and medium-sized enterprises, including manufacturers, to become more innovative and competitive.
  • Canada Small Business Financing Program — Industry Canada
    Increases the availability of loans for establishing, expanding, modernizing and improving small businesses.
  • Clean Energy Fund Program (NRCan)
    The Clean Energy Fund provides $850 million over five years for the demonstration of promising technologies, including large-scale carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects, and renewable energy and clean energy systems demonstrations. It also provides $150 million over five years for clean energy research and development.
  • ecoENERGY for Renewable Power (NRCan)
    Provides an incentive of one cent per kilowatt-hour for up to 10 years to eligible low-impact, renewable electricity projects. This project started on April 1, 2007 and will end on March 31, 2011.
  • Financing Solutions for Canadian Companies (EDC)
    Export Development Canada offers various financing programs for Canadian companies to support their international transactions: to pay for the up-front costs associated with the production of a large export order, to expand into new markets or to respond to a buyer's request for financing.



Tax Incentive Programs

  • Canadian Renewable and Conservation Expense (or Class 43.1)
    Provides an accelerated rate of write-off (30 percent per year, on a declining balance basis) for investments that produce heat for use in an industrial process or electricity by using fossil fuel efficiently or by using renewable energy sources.
  • Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED)
    The program is a federal tax incentive program to encourage Canadian businesses of all sizes and in all sectors to conduct research and development in Canada that will lead to new, improved, or technologically advanced products or processes.



Research and Development Funding

  • Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI)
    An independent corporation established in 1997 by the federal government to strengthen Canadian capacity for research. The CFI strives towards meeting this objective by investing in the development of research infrastructure in Canada.
  • National Science and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC)
    Manages an Industrial Research and Development Fellowship Program (IRDF) that helps partners hire and fund a postdoctoral-level researcher for a two-year period to undertake a project (or projects) of importance to the organization and evaluate the fellow for potential long-term employment.
  • Industrial Research Assistance Program (IRAP) (NRC)
    Provides a range of both technical and business oriented advisory services along with potential financial support to growth-oriented Canadian small and medium-sized enterprises. The program is delivered by an extensive integrated network of 260 professionals in 100 communities across the country. Working directly with clients, IRAP supports their innovative research and development and helps them become commercialization-ready with their new products and services.
  • Office of Energy Efficiency (OEE) — Financial Assistance for Industry (NRCan)
    The OEE strives to achieve excellence in energy conservation and energy efficiency. Among many other grant and incentive programs, the OEE manages the Government's new ecoENERGY Efficiency Initiatives, which is designed to reduce energy use in buildings and houses, industry, retrofits, personal vehicles, and fleets, as well as promote other energy-efficient transportation choices.
  • Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC)
    A federal agency that operates at arm's length from the Government of Canada and manages a $550-million fund to stimulate the development and demonstration of new environmental technologies, particularly those aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
