    The Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) invites you to participate in information sessions on trademarks.

    The Trademarks and Industrial Designs Branch is holding information sessions on trademark practices. These full-day sessions, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., will provide stakeholders information and guidance on the new processes and procedures that were introduced with the amended Trademarks Act and the new Trademarks Regulations on June 17, 2019.

    The day will offer an explanation on how to provide Nice Classification information on a registered trademark and on how to respond to Madrid irregularities raised by the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO). The concept of inherent distinctiveness will also be discussed, and an overview of best practices, including “dos and don’ts” will be provided. In order to facilitate discussion during the day, questions are welcomed throughout the whole session.

    There will be a one-hour lunch where participants will be invited to get their own lunches.

    Space is limited and registration is mandatory—register early to reserve your spot. Registration closes at 5 p.m. on January 26, 2020.

    Other than a specific session in Montreal, the sessions will be presented in English and participants can communicate in their preferred official language (English or French).
