Celebrate National Science Reading Day with Minister Duncan

Wednesday, September 20th is National Science Reading Day 2017!

Pick up a book, short story or magazine with a scientific edge and read along with the rest of the country.

Canada’s Science Literacy Week runs from September 18 – 24.

Transcript—Celebrate National Science Reading Day with Minister Duncan

Hon. Kirsty Duncan: Hi, everyone. National Science Reading Day is today , and I want to share with you one of my favourite books about science, The Universe Within: From Quantum to Cosmos, by Neil Turok. It explores the role of science in the world and the importance of sharing science knowledge.

As part of Science Literacy week, I want to encourage YOU to read about science.

Maybe it's a biography of a great scientist.

Or the story of an incredible discovery or adventure.

Or one of the great youth magazines  published right here in Canada, like OWL or chickaDEE.

There are so many ways to bring science into your reading.

Choose whatever interests you.

Because when we read about science, we learn something new about the world we live in.

Something that might make us ask more questions and want to learn more.

It may even push you toward a career in science.

As Canada's Minister of Science, I encourage all the young people I meet to consider a career in science, technology, engineering or math.

When you choose science, you're choosing to make a difference.

So, on National Science Reading Day this year, pick up an e-book, a magazine or a novel . . . and get reading.

Good luck and enjoy!
