A more inclusive public service for persons with disabilities: Case study
Client: Persons with Disabilities Chairs and Champions Committee
How can we offer a better employment experience in the Federal Public Service for persons with disabilities?
Designed for capabilities. Prototyped the first Government of Canada strategy for persons with disabilities to increase inclusivity, recruitment, retention, and promotion.
Challenged to create an accessible and inclusive experience, the project team used LEGO® Serious Play®, which resulted in the creation of a 15 foot systems map. It contained the Strategy, showcasing vision, mandate, policy, program, and culture change transformation measures. The Honourable Minister of Sport and Persons with Disabilities, Carla Qualtrough, endorsed the strategy that was subsequently validated by the public service.
We spent an amazing two days at the ISED Innovation Lab. 80 people came together and, thanks to the Lab’s design-inspired approach, we were able to map a vision for a more accessible and inclusive Federal Public Service. We came away inspired and with a sense that, yes, we can do this!
