Implementation of the Service Fees Act

The Service Fees Act (SFA) introduced a number of changes as part of the Federal Government’s initiative to modernize the administration of service fees leading to greater government accountability. These changes include annual reporting of all fees, service standards and, as previously communicated, an annual adjustment of fees based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI).

By , all departments and agencies are required by the Treasury Board to establish a remission policy for all fees subject to service standards to fulfill their obligations under Section 7 of the SFA. This requirement applies to fees payable for Trustee Licence Renewals as well as for Individual Licence Applications such that when the relevant service standard is not met, a portion of the fee will be remitted to the fee payer according to the ISED Remission Policy and the Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy's (OSB) Program Annex.
