Richard Taylor appointed Deputy Commissioner of Civil Matters Branch at the Competition Bureau

OTTAWA, September 4, 2013 — John Pecman, Commissioner of Competition, is pleased to announce the appointment of Richard Taylor to the position of Deputy Commissioner, Civil Matters Branch, effective September 16, 2013.

Mr. Taylor, who holds a Masters Degree in Economics, began his career at the Bureau in 1983 as an investigator and has held numerous management positions, including previously serving as Deputy Commissioner of the Civil Matters Branch. In October 2012, Mr. Taylor was appointed to the position of T.D. MacDonald Chair, where he has provided the Bureau with advice on economic matters relating to competition policy, and has participated in the economic analysis of significant Bureau investigations.

"Richard brings extensive enforcement experience and a wealth of knowledge in competition policy to the Civil Matters Branch," said Mr. Pecman.

Mr. Taylor will be succeeding Ms. Alison Tait, who joined the Bureau in April, 2012. Ms. Tait will be leaving the Bureau on September 13, 2013 to take on a new position at the Canadian Space Agency as Director General of Policy and External Relations.

"I would like to thank Alison Tait for her good work and dedication to the Competition Bureau," added Mr. Pecman. "Alison has been a highly valued member of the Bureau's senior management team. As Deputy Commissioner, she oversaw a number of high-profile enforcement matters and brought deep policy experience to the management table. I wish her much success in her future endeavors."

The Competition Bureau, as an independent law enforcement agency, ensures that Canadian businesses and consumers prosper in a competitive and innovative marketplace.
