FinTech Market Study Portal
Driving competition and innovation in the financial services sector
The Competition Bureau launched a market study into technology‑led innovation in the Canadian financial services (FinTech) sector in May 2016. The study explores the competitive impact that FinTech is having on the financial services industry, barriers to entry faced by companies, and whether there is a need for regulatory reform to promote greater competition while maintaining consumer confidence in the sector.
More than 100 stakeholders representing key segments of the financial services sector have made submissions or spoken with representatives of the Bureau to provide input into the market study so far. Stakeholders continue to be invited to make a submission to the Bureau in 2017.
In February 2017, the Bureau hosted a one‑day workshop that served as a forum for market players, regulatory authorities and policy makers to engage directly in a discussion about how best to ensure that Canada's FinTech sector delivers competitive benefits to the marketplace.
