Event summary

On March 15-16, 2019, the Competition Bureau, Competition Tribunal and Canadian Bar Association joined forces to organize the first Canadian Competition Law Moot at the Federal Court of Canada in Toronto, ON.

This outstanding event brought together over 20 budding lawyers from five Canadian Law faculties: the University of Ottawa, the Peter A. Allard School of Law at the University of British Columbia, Queen’s University, the University of Toronto Faculty of Law and Osgoode Hall Law School at York University.

During the entire event, the Bureau placed a strong emphasis on feedback and networking. For instance, students received personalized feedback from six different judges during interactive sessions. Each panel also featured judges from several levels of courts, including former Supreme Court justice Marshall Rothstein, the Chief Justice of the Federal Court, the Chairperson of the Competition Tribunal and a Justice of the Alberta Court of Appeal. Many of the top practitioners of competition law also acted as judges during the moot, along with senior members of the Competition Bureau, including the Commissioner of Competition.
