Provincial registration of federal business corporations
Registering your federal corporation while you incorporate
Corporations are required to register in the provinces in which they will conduct business. When you incorporate your federal corporation online, you can, at the same time, register your corporation in Ontario, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland and Labrador.
This federal-provincial service (Joint Online Registration System) aims to save federal corporations time and effort; it fills out the necessary provincial forms with the information you provide during incorporation.
As of June 29, 2020, Saskatchewan is using a new digital solution, called the Multi-Jurisdictional Registry Access Service (MRAS), to deliver seamless registration and reporting services to businesses. Federal businesses that want to register in Saskatchewan must now do so after they incorporate. Register your business in Saskatchewan.
Required information for registering in Ontario
To register your corporation in Ontario, you need to provide the information below on Form 2 – Extra Provincial Corporations – Initial Return / Notice of Change.
- Date on which your business commenced in Ontario (see the paragraph below)
- Language preference in Ontario
- Address of the principal office in Ontario
- Name and address of the Chief Officer / Manager in Ontario, if applicable
- Name and title of the authorizing individual
The Government of Ontario does not accept registrations with post-dated commencement dates. If the corporation will commence business in the future, you will need to register with Ontario within 60 days of the day on which that business commences.
Ontario registration fees
There are no fees for registering with the province of Ontario.
Copies of Ontario’s registration form and your Ontario Business Number
After you incorporate, we provide you with copies of the provincial form you filed; note that they are for your records only. The copies do not contain your Ontario Business Number, which is provided by the province. If your application for extra-provincial registration is approved, the Government of Ontario sends you a final copy of the form by email, including your business number.
Ontario annual returns and other registration requirements

Required information for registering in Nova Scotia
To register your corporation in Nova Scotia, you must complete the form below.
- Application for Registration of an Extra-Provincial Corporation to do business in Nova Scotia (Parts 1, 2 and 3)
On this form, you must provide the information below.
- Date of starting business in Nova Scotia
- Business activity
- Business location in Nova Scotia
- Name and address of recognized agent in Nova Scotia
- Signatory information
- Contact information
- Name, residential address and position of all officers
Nova Scotia registration fees
To register your corporation in Nova Scotia, you need to pay the registration fee of $274.10.
How to register with Nova Scotia
You must send your registration documents by mail to the Government of Nova Scotia. Your registration is only considered complete when the province has processed your signed application and accepted your registration fees.

Newfoundland and Labrador
Required information for registering in Newfoundland and Labrador
To register your corporation in Newfoundland and Labrador, you need to complete the forms below. Note that these forms are only available in English and that they are from Newfoundland and Labrador’s Corporation’s Act.
- Form 24 – Statement for Registration – Extra Provincial Company (Section 438)
- Form 25 – Statutory Declaration (Section 438)
- Form 26 – Power of Attorney (Section 440)
On these forms, you must provide the information below.
- Date on which you start doing business in Newfoundland and Labrador
- Business activity
- Address of the chief place of business in Newfoundland and Labrador
Newfoundland and Labrador registration fees
To register your corporation in Newfoundland and Labrador, you need to pay the registration fee of $560.
How to register with Newfoundland and Labrador
