Update to the patent e-filing application
The Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) Patent Branch is pleased to announce the release of an updated patent e-filing experience, effective July 17, 2019. This update is one of many client-focused online improvements that directly support CIPO's commitment to service excellence. These changes will make it easier to submit an online patent application through the CIPO website.
This update is in direct response to the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's mandate to make all Government of Canada websites compliant with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0.
On July 17, you will notice updates to the design of the patent e-filing web content, which will consist of multiple pages accessible by a single click. A new navigation menu will guide you through the application process. It will be clear which steps are mandatory, which steps you have already completed and which service fees are required, based on your application.
There will be another update to the e-filing web application when the Patent Law Treaty comes into force later in 2019.
If you have questions about submitting your patent application, please contact our Client Service Centre.
