CIPO is closed on September 30

The Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) will be closed for business on September 30, 2021, to commemorate the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a new statutory holiday for federally regulated workers in the public and private sectors.

Recently passed into legislation by the Government of Canada, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is an opportunity for individuals to reflect on the legacy of residential schools and learn more about the impact these schools have had on past and present generations of Indigenous peoples across Canada.

As a result of the September 30 holiday: (i) CIPO will consider all time limits to be extended until October 1 and (ii) September 30 will no longer be considered a working day for the purposes of section 78 of the Patent Act, section 66 of the Trademarks Act and section 21 of the Industrial Design Act. See CIPOS's website for more information about time period extensions.
