This paper deals with the Canadian mechanisms and practices for assessing the social and cultural implications of technology. It reaches the conclusion that, notwithstanding the vast resources applied to science and technology and their social and cultural implications, all is not well in this regard. The paper provides a discussion of what might be required to change the situation.
