Teaching approach:

  • Immerse students in the cultural milieu of the language being studied, in the classroom and through educational travel and exchange in Canada and abroad.
  • Encourage and help students to become involved in the Francophone community and nurture interaction with other language education groups in universities and elsewhere.
  • Lead colleagues by example, with a positive attitude and dedication to teaching.

Outstanding achievements:

Driving force behind French immersion program, particularly in curriculum development, at two secondary schools in London, Sir Frederick Banting and Sir Wilfrid Laurier.

Coordinated the school board's international student exchange program for 18 years, an entirely voluntary effort requiring much personal time.

Initiated the practice of language immersion outdoor camping, subsequently included in Professor David Pratt's book, Terrific Teaching, 100 Great Teachers Share Their Best Ideas.

Received the 1991 Helen B. St. John Award, the highest award from the Ontario Modern Languages Teachers' Association for classroom teaching and leadership in the profession.
