Teaching approach:

  • Challenge students to excel by promoting interest in special language events, cultural activities and oral presentations (poetry, for example) for peers and parents.
  • Organize opportunities for educational travel to promote cultural exchange and expand the horizons of learning history and appreciating historical perspective.
  • Accommodate students whose schedules do not allow them to participate in regular classes by preparing independent study units.

Outstanding achievements:

Initiated a tutorial system whereby French immersion students tutor beginner students, and developed learning guides for both levels of students. Also formed a partnership with an elementary school through which Grade 12 students choose a language-related activity and teach it to Grade 1 students.

Established an extracurricular French club in which participation continues to rise steadily; sponsors events such as the Cabane à sucre and the Festival de France at Banff.

As coordinator of the Extended French Department, has developed presentations to promote the value of learning a second language.

Has been a vigorous participant in the development of French as a second language programs and materials for the Alberta ministry of education.

Primary creator of St. Mary's High School's first anthology of literary works of French second language and French language arts students.
