- Treat all students as individuals to be respected, listened to, comforted, corrected and challenged.
- Eliminate discipline problems in class with energetic, equitable treatment.
- Focus on developing writing and oratory skills; they help develop poise, confidence and leadership skills.
Developed a successful school-wide public speaking program with 97 percentstudent participation. Students consistently win regional, provincial and national public speaking awards. Former students credit program with success in post-secondary studies.
Manages a popular theatre arts program that boosts confidence and skills in students. School plays, musical Nativity and Passion liturgies and other liturgies are met with acclaim in community and local parishes. Two former students went on to graduate from the National Theatre School; another currently writes and directs commercials.
Organizes and leads school trips for reward, enrichment and cross-curricular learning. Special education students visit industry and trade schools to expose them to work opportunities. In seven trips, more than 200 students have accompanied Mr. Duffenais to Europe to experience language and culture differences.
Employs a variety of teaching methods to reach all students. Arranges peer tutoring, records texts onto audio tapes for weaker readers, and corrects homework in collaboration with students to achieve near 100 percent attendance and homework completion, and above-board-average passing grades and pass rates.
