Mrs. Ratcliffe Hood: Grades 9-12/First Nations language arts, career development coordination.

Teaching approach:

To teach is to touch a life forever.

Create learning opportunities for students, make learning joyful and stimulating, and create a supportive learning environment that challenges staff and the community at large to achieve their potential.

Outstanding achievements:

Blasner and Hood have developed applied learning models and strategies for integrating employability skills into school curriculum.

They developed a variety of off-line and online lesson plans for their classes, encouraging students to work in teams. They assisted teachers in the use of an Internet resource called Opening Doors.

They serve at-risk students and promote First Nations literacy via reflective processes like journal writing and learning logs. The writing serves as a healing process for students who are dealing with the aftermath of the residential school experience.

They present seminars and workshops for students on topics such as careers and the labour market, overcoming test anxiety, study skills, and portfolio and résumé development.

In Praise Of:

"Ruth and Heather epitomize the meaning of TEAM: Together Everyone Achieves More." - Principal

"At the beginning of the course 'the dynamic duo,' helped create a supportive, caring classroom. It wasn't long before I began feeling comfortable putting myself out there with an opinion or suggestion. I felt accepted." - Former student
