Teaching approach:

All young people, even the youngest, must know about a country's development in order to understand it well.

Helps students understand the complex influence that events have on their current experience and on their place in our society.

Creates an environment that is conducive to learning and encourages students to achieve their potential, helping them become responsible and independent citizens.

Outstanding achievements:

  • Applies knowledge related to the functioning of memory and high-level questioning.
  • Uses a logbook in which the student may reflect on the material covered in class.
  • Develops an activity in which students in the law course identify current problems in the country.
  • Includes simulation and a visit by a panel of young offenders in her law course.

Her students have distinguished themselves on several occasions at competitions related to the law course. For example, in 2002-03, her team won the regional law competition, in which two of her students were selected as best litigants.

Ms. Bastarache is part of the educational team responsible for the Parks Canada project to prepare interdisciplinary edukits for primary and secondary teachers in the province.

She is also part of several selection, editorial and training committees of the New Brunswick Department of Education for District 11, and other committees related to teaching and education.
