Teaching approach:

Assists in the development of each individual as a contributing, responsible member of society.

Challenging tasks help prepare students for the challenges they will face in the future.

Working in teams allows students to participate with their peers and help each other to learn.

Outstanding achievements:

Innovative classroom projects include: the Superhero contest, where students design a product using a Superhero that has special skills with respect to motion; the Spaceship project, where students are required to design a plan for landing and starting a new colony on mars; and the News-Presentations project, informing the student population about innovations in the field of science.

Students develop post-secondary writing skills with flow charts, technical lab reports, and scholarly reports. Smith uses his own reports written in university as examples for student reference.

Mr. Smith is committed to helping students with questions or problems at lunch, during spare periods and after school. He also conducts weekly practices to help students prepare for national chemistry contests. Teamwork and leadership skills are developed in his chemistry classes by having groups work on questions from old chemistry contests.
