Stan Hunter's commitment to his students is unparalleled. He believes all of his students have what it takes to become leaders. His passionate and inspiring teaching methods create a lasting imprint on all of his students.
Mr. Hunter links the real world to the classroom. Through his "infamous question of the week", he encourages his students to brainstorm, to be engaged and to develop their cognitive skills at school.
- His students give back to the community—raising $12,000 to support efforts to end childhood cancers, collected almost 1,000 pounds of clothing for the Canadian Diabetes Association and helped collect 40 tons of canned food for local food banks;
- Established a robotics mentorship program that matches junior students with senior students and focuses on developing leadership skills;
- His robotics team, Team 2056, holds the world record with 19 consecutive regional wins—in a field with over 2700 teams from around the world;
- Founded Steel City Robotics Federation to link robotics groups from across Hamilton to connect, brainstorm and share resources.
As a young woman studying in engineering, Mr. Hunter represents the catalyst for my discovery and motivation within the scope of science and technology. Without his limitless support and mentoring I doubt I would have the same passion and ambition towards technological education.
Both my children and most of Mr. Hunter's students say he is their 'all-time favourite teacher.' This is not just because of the skills Mr. Hunter has taught them but because of the impact he has had on their lives; instilling them with confidence, a sense of belonging and a life-long love of learning.
