Andrea Venditti seeks to pass along the same passion for science that she inherited from her own teachers. She creates engaging opportunities for her secondary students to learn and exposes younger children to the fun of science even before they get to high school.
Ms. Venditti firmly believes that all students can learn. It is this belief that drives her to engage students with hands-on learning, inspiring their curiosity and exhorting them not only to ask how things work but also why.
- Develops simulations so students can apply their learning in lifelike situations: in Mountain Rescue, students use their knowledge of physics during a simulated high-stakes rescue mission; in Bombardier Internship, students propose new airplane designs for a hypothetical internship, not only applying their learning in practical ways but revealing alternative career paths.
- Acts as guest teacher at a local elementary school to introduce young learners to higher level science; similarly, developed and delivers an age-appropriate workshop to show local Brownies and Girl Guides the wonders of science and help them earn various badges.
- Wrote physics workbooks that are now available to teachers across Quebec; helped develop a study guide for teachers preparing students for the Grade 10 science exam; has long been involved in preparing and validating exams for a wide range of science courses.
- Ran after-class tutorials for students struggling to pass the provincial science exam; all students taking her intensive sessions went on to pass the exam when they took it the second time.
"By encouraging my daughter to do her best at all times and to celebrate her accomplishments rather than focus on her failures, [Andrea ensured] my daughter's self-esteemed rocketed!"
"I consider myself truly lucky to have a mentor like Andrea. My skills and confidence would not have improved as much as they have without her guidance."
