principal

Ginette Perreault is an experienced teacher who imparts a joy of learning and learning properly to her young students. The work methods she inculcates in her students will stay with them their whole lives.  She also makes them aware of respect, the power of a group, digital citizenship and climate issues. Under her wing, little ones become engaged, curious and creative members of society.

Pedagogical approach

Ginette Perreault makes wonderful use of the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) approach adopted in her school and which divides learning activities into a number of stages: planning, creation, verification, objectification and sharing. The children's interests are central to her teaching which results in their developing outstanding intellectual curiosity, a thirst for learning and ease in adapting.

In class

  • Through various activities, like Hour of Code, Ginette uses play to enable her students to develop various skills such as the creation and decryption of a code and team problem-solving.
  • She takes advantage of the school's robotic equipment so that her students are able to program Bee-Bots, Blue-Bots and Ozobots robots.
  • To teach her students about bullying, she gives lessons focused on inclusion, equity and the protection of privacy.
  • She invites her students to document their digital portfolio themselves by taking photos with iPads so they can keep and share evidence of learning.

Outstanding achievements

  • She stimulates the children's imaginations through large-scale projects like the construction of a firetruck with a water tank, pump, hoses and a cab allowing the transport of junior firefighters.
  • The various projects she undertakes with the children enable them to develop leadership by feeling invested both in fulfilling their own responsibilities and in the project as a whole.
  • Ginette was behind the creation of a pollinator garden at the school, teaching the students about the importance of insects in the natural balance and developing their knowledge of plants.
  • She uses the expertise of her daughter, a biologist in the Far North, to educate her students about climate change and the importance of protecting the environment.
