Notice No. SMSE-008-15 — Release of BETS-7, Issue 3, TB-1, Issue 4, and Rescission of BESP-100, Issue 1

Notice is hereby given that Industry Canada is releasing the following documents:

BETS-7 establishes the technical standards and requirements for radio apparatus capable of receiving television broadcasting, equipped with Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) and/or National Television System Committee (NTSC) tuners, intended for sale or resale to the public. TB-1 clarifies the application of BETS-7 for the guidance of manufacturers and importers.

Notice is also hereby given that Industry Canada is rescinding the following document:

  • Broadcasting Equipment Standards Procedure BESP-100, Issue 1: Certification of Broadcasting Equipment.

BESP-100 established the procedure for obtaining technical acceptance certificates for broadcasting equipment; however, the procedure for the certification of broadcasting equipment has since been included in Radio Standards Procedure RSP-100: Certification of Radio Apparatus.

BETS-7 and TB-1 have been coordinated with industry through the Radio Advisory Board of Canada (RABC).

Submitting comments

Interested parties should submit their comments within 120 days of the date of publication of this notice in electronic format (Microsoft Word or Adobe PDF) to the Manager, Broadcast and Multimedia Terrestrial (, Industry Canada, 235 Queen Street, Ottawa, Ontario K1A 0H5.
