English Abstract


Described are various embodiments of a cross-carrier network communication
rerouting
system and method, and virtualized smartphone-over-data system associated
therewith. In
some embodiments, an inbound mobile telephony communication is intercepted,
and
automatically rerouted to a registered user of a mobile telephony-over-data
environment
where the registered user is associated with a destination number for the
inbound
communication. Accordingly, the inbound telephony communication can be
delivered
over the user's mobile data network plan or another available data network
connection,
rather than via standard mobile telephony.

CLAIMS

What is claimed is:
1. A mobile network communication routing method for an inbound telephony
communication, the method comprising:
receiving the inbound communication at a local termination switch;
cross-referencing a destination number associated with the inbound
communication with a register of users of a mobile telephony-over-data
environment; and
upon confirming association of said destination number with a given one of
said
users, rerouting the inbound telephony communication to a server associated
with said
mobile telephony-over-data environment to be accessed therefrom by said given
user via
an available data network connection.
2. The method of claim 1, wherein the method further comprises, prior to
said
rerouting, determining whether said given user is actively logged into said
environment.
3. The method of claim 1, wherein said environment is defined by a thin
client
application executing on a data communication device and interfacing with a
remote
server telephony-over-data implementation.
4. The method of claim 3, wherein said thin client application comprises a
virtualized smartphone-over-data application.
5. The method of any one of claims 1 to 4, wherein said mobile telephony
communication comprises one of a voice communication and a text-based
communication.
6. The method of any one of claims 1 to 5, wherein said destination number
is
associated with a mobile communication device registered to a destination
mobile
telephony network; and wherein the method further comprises:

identifying said destination mobile telephony network associated with said
destination number; and
routing the inbound telephony communication to said mobile communication
device over said destination mobile telephony network unless otherwise
rerouted to said
server.
7. A telephony
termination switch for rerouting an inbound telephony
communication, the switch comprising:
an inbound telephony interface receiving identification of a destination
number
associated with the inbound telephony communication;
a processor executing a search sequence to cross-reference said destination
number with a register of users of a mobile telephony-over-data environment;
wherein, upon confirming association of said destination number with a given
one
of said users, said processor automatically commands rerouting of the inbound
telephony
communication to a server associated with said mobile telephony-over-data
environment
to be accessed therefrom by said given user via said environment over an
available data
network connection.
