Claims for The Smart Newspaper
1. New way of printing a newspaper, or magazine or advertisings flyer or any
similar
publication in distant, independent, self-sustained autonomous Printing
Stations
2. Custom oriented newspaper, or custom version of a newspaper ¨ this means
a. The regular (standard) newspaper will be continuously updated, the same
newspaper
could be different (different articles, news, advertisings, notes, content) in
a certain
proportion at different times of the same day, even in minutes
b. The custom version newspaper is based on a regular (standard) newspaper but
most (or
all) of his content is a custom version, in accordance with the customer
preferences
(each customer should make a profile on the software app (the internet,
smartphone) or
on the Printer Station display. The customer can choose the newspaper sub-
sections
which he likes ( for example news ¨ local, national, or international, or
specific country,
sports ¨ for example only hockey, and here he can choose local, national
international ¨
and maybe a specific country, etcetera), and he can add new sections or
subsections in
his newspaper ( for example he can add internet blogs, from specific authors,
or poems,
or short novel fascicles, or games like chess, Sudoku, Bridge etcetera). In
that way, the
customer can order a newspaper on his way, The Smart Newspaper, a custom
version
newspaper.
c. The nation-wide newspapers or the international ones could be printed
too, in the
original version or in the custom version way, even could be translated in and
from any
language.
3. Direct Advertising ¨that means the newspaper advertising could remain the
same like
before(like the original) but could be modified, for the local community or
for the custom
preferences:
a. The nation-wide or the international newspapers could have the same
advertisings like
the original ones, but they can have the advertising modified, that means
replaced with
local ones. In that way, the international newspapers will be more attractive
for the local
community.
b. The advertisings could be custom direct oriented, for the preferences he
marked on the
app (on his profile). In that way, the advertisings will be more precisely for
a specific
customer ( for example a male customer, 40 years old, a mechanic at a truck
station,
with fishing and hunting hobby - he will have most of the advertisings related
to that
preferences!)
c. On-demand advertising ¨ that means the customer can add a special demand
for
advertising ( for example if he plans to replace the water tank, he can have
all the
advertising related to that thing!)

Description

CA 2963139 2017-04-03
The SmartNewspaper
Also, could be known as iNewsPa per or iPaper
Introduction
This is a new way of produce and promote the newspaper, and will be a
different way of interaction
with it.
First, it will be printed in distant, independent, network connected stations.
This station must
contain at least one printer, with a folding machine, a Control Unit, a touch-
screen display and a tray
for the printed newspapers, everything in an automatic manner.
These Printer Station could be in subways station, train stations, airport,
big mall or shopping
centers, offices, hospitals, distant towns, post offices etcetera.
Everything will be controlled by a central software ( custom made program).
The customer can pick an already printed version of the newspaper or order the
printing of a new
one on the touch-screen display from the printing station, or directly via the
internet(computer,
tablet, smartphone) or via a smartphone (computer, tablet) app.
The SmartNewspaper description
1. The regular newspapers
This means the usual newspapers, like ( the existing ones) Metro, 24H,
Suburban, The
Gazette etc. This newspapers will be already printed ( on place, in the
Printing Stations), in
an adequate number, and stored on specifical trays.
This trays will be provided with sensors, to figure when the trays are emptied
and to
automatically order new printings.
The main difference for this newspapers with the usual system is that the
newspapers are
continuously updated, like news, advertising, actually all the content could
be continuously
updated. This means the 10 AM edition ( for example) it will be different - in
a certain
proportion - than the 4 AM edition.
Meanwhile the customer can ¨ if he wants ¨to order at the display ( or app) an
early edition,
and, actually, he can order to print any edition ever printed ( this means
existing in the
central system ). In that way, the customer can have the breaking news
instantly, in just
seconds since happened! All the updates would be done at the Central Station,
by the
reporters.

CA 2963139 2017-04-03
He can order ( if he wants) just a certain ( specifical ) article, for
example, who was in a
newspaper.
2. The custom version newspaper
This means the customer, on the Printing Station display, or via the internet
or thru the
smartphone app, can order a custom version newspaper. The customer can have a
profile (
in the system ) or it can be just for one time.
Anyway, what can the customer have:
a. The newspaper content: he can choose ( on the app) only what is interested
in, for
example, only news, sport, economical, and games ( like Sudoku, chess, bridge,

crosswords etc). He can choose exactly the specific ones who interest him.
b. Custom content: local, provincial, nationwide or international, even on a
specific country
or region news. For example, can have the local news ( example - Montreal
area), and
nationwide news ( example - all Canada ) and international news ( but only
¨for
example ¨the Italian news).
The same for the economical section, political section, etc.
c. The sports section ( for example ) can be customized too: the client can
pick only
specified sports sections ( for example only hockey, local, nationwide and
USA, or the
International one, etc. ). Or ( for example ) only European soccer, or only
chess.
d. Direct-advertising: the customer can have customized advertisings. This
means if he is a
male ( for example ), 45 years old, married with two children, a 10-year-
oldgirl, and a 7-
year-old boy, he may have advertising related to a male ( for example no-one
or less
beauty creams, or nail polish, or anti-aging treatments advertisings) but can
have more (
or only ) male related advertisings, like shoptools, computers, TVs, cars or
tires, etc., all
depend on the profile which he made.
If the customer needs, for example, to replace his water tank, he can add this
on his
profile and he will have the advertisings related to water tanks ( for example
sales,
installers, hints, even articles about that subject).
He can order also, the flyers from certain stores ( for example only HomeDepot
and
Lowes/Rona), which will be printed and distributed with his newspaper.
e. The customer can have ( thru his app or internet profile) special articles,
for example, he
can order all the articles written by a specific author, or even he can have
printed
specific blogs, or speeches of certain politicians, or from certain people (
sportsmen,
actors, TV entertainers etc.). On special events, he can order all the
information about
them, for example: elections, or Stanley Cup, or tennis competitions etc.
The customer can have comics, small novels fascicles, poems, actually anything
what can
be printed.
f. The client can order international newspapers, originals or transformed:
Originals ¨ the identical with the original newspaper, from all the world, for

example, Corriere dela Sera, from Italy
Transformed ¨for example, all the advertisings or only a part of them could be

replaced by the local advertisings
The newspaper could be translated in a specific language too.

CA 2963139 2017-04-03
This one could be the base of the newspaper, and at that one, the client can
add
the rest of his preferences.
g. The newspaper can be ordered in advance, and when the customer arrive at
the printing
station he can have it in the tray ( he can identify his newspaper by code, by
name,
scanning etc. ) or ¨ once arrived ¨ only he shows ( scans ) his code ( with
the smartphone
) and the newspaper will be delivered on the tray. That preorder is to avoid
the in-line
peoples, or the printing time ( who can be up to 1 minute, for example).
The economical facts
1. Is very ecological:
a. Less wasted newspapers, incomparable fewer newspapers will be returned (
not used)
b. Bigger control on recycling: the customer, if he returns the newspaper
in a specific
recycling bin, he can scan the code and the recycling bin will send the
information to the
system. In that way, the client could be rewarded, in some ways, for
recycling.
c. The customer will have only the information he wants, in the newspaper,
so like this it
will be with fewer pages, these means less paper ( more condensed
information).
d. The transport, special for the long distance ones ( for example The New
York Times for
Montreal, or for Vancouver)
2. The advertisings:
a. Direct-advertising will be more efficient than the actual one. For
example, with the
actual newspaper system almost no-one of the advertising from The New York
Times
newspaper it's useful for a Canadian reader. The same with any international
newspaper.
Direct advertising means the advertising will be special for the customer, or
customer-
oriented, or local advertisings.
b. The newspaper could be:
i. Paid one, with no advertising or just a few
ii. For free, with usual advertising load
iii. Even the customer can receive a small amount of money if he chooses the
extra-
loaded advertising's version, money who can be transferred to his account thru
the
smartphone app.
c. The local advertisers can replace certain advertisings, like this the
newspaper will be
more attractive. In that way, the same newspaper, and the same edition ( the
10 AM, for
example) it will be different in advertising the Montreal one compared with
the Toronto
one. They will have the same articles but different advertisings ( partially
different or
totaly diferent ones).
d. The city notes, or the government, or the police ones could be
inserted very fast, same
day, even same hour ( for example Amber alerts, criminal facts, natural
disasters etc.)
e. The special events advertisings could be inserted very fast too, for
example, big sales, or
real estate ones, or special offers, or TV events etc.

CA 2963139 2017-04-03
f. The Publisac ( the free home delivered flyers) could have the same fate,
instead to
receive at home the flyers in which you are not interested, or only partial (
for example
customer wants only Walmart and Rona ones, the rest will be thrown into the
garbage,
or for example you need the HomeDepot ones and you didn't receive the flyers
bag),
you can order them to the Printer Station, even they can be inserted in your
newspaper.
3. The newspaper printed version could be automatically ( or on demand )
expedited like a
digital copy to the customer email address or on his app. Even the customer
can print it at
home/office on his printer, or print specific articles.
4. With the Printing Stations, the world newspapers could be printed in
every far away city or
town, in distant points ( for example distant towns, seabed oil extraction
stations etc.), the
only thing what they need is an internet conection.
5. The Printing Station franchise could take profit from almost any
newspaper from all around
the world! It's a newspaper distributor, but he can take profit from the local
advertisers,
too.

CA 2963139 2017-04-03
